MatchPlanner started with a simple observation: running a grassroots team seems to take four tools at once – the squad in a spreadsheet, the drills in text files, the line-up on a scrap of paper and the eternal “who’s in on Saturday?” question in the group chat. Each one sort of works on its own. Together they eat hours every week.

So a tool of its own took shape – at first just for the own team: squad, schedule, tactics and training in one app that the players actually use. Whatever proved itself on the pitch stayed; whatever nobody used got thrown out again. At some point it was clear: we’re not the only ones with this problem – and MatchPlanner was opened up to everyone.

Behind MatchPlanner there is no company with a sales team, but one person: Furkan Gönel, software developer and coach. That has a pleasant side effect – there are no investors demanding monetisation, no ad slots and no growth targets. That’s why MatchPlanner is completely free, and that’s why your feedback doesn’t end up in a ticket system but goes straight to the developer.
